An Extraordinary Meeting of the ITU-D Expert Groups on ICT Indicators

24.02.2017

An Extraordinary Meeting of the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators (EGH) and Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on  March 1-3, 2017.

During the meeting the existing methodology for calculating the ICT Development Index (ICT Development Index, IDI) is to be reviewed and new recommendations for its assessment are to be agreed on. The objective of the extraordinary meeting of the EGTI/EGH is to examine the findings and recommendations by the EGTI/EGH sub-group as well as the independent group of experts. Participants are expected to consider, debate, and agree on a revised set of indicators to be included in the IDI. The decision to create a special EGTI/EGH sub-group was made during  the joint meeting of the 7th EGTI and 4th EGH, which was held in October 2016.

For reference:

The ICT Development Index (IDI) is a composite index that combines 11 indicators into one benchmark measure. The IDI is divided into the following three sub-indices:

  • access sub-index (captures ICT readiness);
  • use sub-index (captures ICT intensity);
  • skills sub-index (seeks to capture capabilities or skills which are important for ICTs).

 ITU is responsible for the IDI measurements and publishs the results in the annual report "Measuring the Information Society"
